Rubicon

If you are thinking about doing a run and just want to put it out there, this is the place to do it.

So is it too early to talk about it? Does infectious do a run? My goal is to make this run at least once next year. Been doing lots of reading on it and really looking forward to going!!! My jeep should be ready with gears, locker, steering and armor by then!!! Anyone else planning on going?

I love Larry.... but he's got to be fired from the con run. One date needs to be set and stuck by... I understand it was his work causing all the problems... but that trickled down to the rest of us.... how many other than myself ran the Con last year?

Scotty.... not sure I am doing the Con this year or not, but I usually put together a run before the main group goes. I like running the trail in June, first or second weekend after the snow is gone (they usually run in August, after the Jambos). I find the trail to be less crowded, bon fires are okay, and the trail has had less manipulation (i.e. it's harder) early on in the season.

I will be doing Fordyce again this year. It will likely be at some point near the Trek (maybe on the Trek?). If there are some folks that want to run the Con, I could swing by it on my way home and do a few days with you and whom ever else wanted to go. Only problem with that is I likely will not figure out when I am going to Fordyce for another few months.

Im hoping to do it next year in the fall but it depends alot on if I can get certain upgrades done before then. I still need axles front and rear and tires (35's or 37's I change my mind every other day) and a means of mounting a full size spare that wont destroy the tailgate. Just finished trusssing in my front end and gusseted the C's and did chromoly ball joints. I really want to do it during the work week so that it wont be as much of a highway and take a 3 or four days to do it so I can really take it all in.

like I said brad , larry organized the rubicon ... yes it was changed last year because issues that does not mean he's fired .... and like I said in previous post that there's others who plan in other times for con

I know. I was just saying that Larry's schedule and the way it apparently changes, is a problem for planning.

If I can get time off work count me in brad. I'm on 33's now and prolly will be for at least the rest of next year. I'm hoping in the next 4-6 months I'll have all the necessary upgrades done to my jeep. I'm gonna try and do as many runs as possible next year. If we plan a week day trip those are usually easier for me to get off work. But I'll try and make as many weekends as posdible work too!!!

As soon as work picks back up I'm going in for gears, for now ill get steering, rock rings and other simple stuff. Tires will be last since the con is late in the year. And I can do everything else on 31's

I'll be doing swamp lake. Rubicon doesn't interest me at all because of its popularity, and many of the hard options have been made easy. Rubicon has always been a bust for infectious.

I loved the con and did it many times. Sadly, the trail has been made too easy and it growing much too crowded due to all of the other trail closures in the area. I may do it again next year, only so my kids can run it in their Jeeps before the enviros get it closed down. This is too bad because IOR has had some epic runs there. My last trip there with the group was awesome. The Franco Bros have sold off their off-road vehicles, so I wouldn't plan on Larry setting up a run this year.

If you have never been to the con, I would go. Its a right of passage for any serious off-roader and won't be open forever. Just post the dates you want to go, and perhaps someone will join you. You can download full GPS tracks of the trail online and its the most traveled Jeep trail in the world, so don't be afraid of getting lost.

Swamp lake is now almost as difficult as the Rubicon, is 2.5 hours closer to Bako, has better scenery, better fishing, and is never crowded. So in a way - Swamp Lake has become our new Rubicon run. Stay tuned, a date for a summer run is being planned to swamp.

I'm definitely interested in Swamp too!!! I've never done rubicon so I wanna do it before it's shut down. If possible I need like at least a month in advance for a weekend trip in order to get time off work. So if a date is set it kinda needs to be in stone. Sucks, but My work schedule is not flexible cause I have no schedule.

I wasn't aware of any runs on the con you did with IOR  . I had a fantastic time on every Rubicon run that IOR did. The 2010 and 2011 runs were epic fun. The problem with the con was that some were trying to make it into a big annual event for the club, but in reality only 4-7 rigs max will show, so that would make the Swamp Lake trips a bust too right? In reality, no Rubicon run has been a "bust". Its a great trail, and living in Cali, one you should do at least once. It has been modified back to the condition it was in about 10 years ago, so its a good trip for a Jeep with 35s and should be a great challenge on 33s, but its still more difficult than swamp lake.

Scotty, my point was that, most likely, no one is going to plan a Rubicon trip. Someone will probably do a last minute run like a couple members did last year, but there will be no planned IOR run. If you want to run the con, and need to put in vacation time now, just pick days and do it yourself rather than wait for someone else to plan dates for you. If you dont want to go alone and don't mind crowds, go during the Jambo; http://www.jeepersjamboree.com/trips_in ... _3day.html

Ya that's what I'm gonna have to do. Thanks Dawg!!! I'll get with Mikey and see if he can get any time off to do it too. I don't wanna do it alone and like to do it before the Jambo. I'll see how things pan out with work between now and then. Thanks again!!

Just give me a weekend date!, all I need is my trailer finished and better steering :) When we go it's only going to be for moderately built rigs with their own parts for when something breaks. I don't really want to be the trail baby sitter because I happened to come with every tool to fix my jeep, spare shafts/driveline, winch, own air pump etc.

There were many that refused to go on the club's Con and Dusy runs because they didn't want to lose 2 days of their vacation running back to Sacramento or Fresno to get Dana 35 parts, so they would run those trails on their own without posting it here :stirPot: . But really, everyone that went on these runs was very prepared and had well built rigs, which may have something to do with the low turn-out. Kudos to you for coming prepared; self reliance is the essence of 4-wheeling. Shit happens and you gotta be ready for it on these remote trips.

Even on the first Swamp Lake trip we did last summer, we had to leave 2 Jeeps on the trail and come back the next weekend to fix (steering box ripped off frame and a broken D35 ring gear).

I wouldn't even think about going on a run like the rubicon or swamp lake without being fully prepared with tools and spare parts. I don't wanna have to rely on anyone or have to leave my jeep on the side of a trail.

I have never gone because it's too far to make it worth it, and with only a few rigs from IOR who actually make it. Then the last few years the dates were changing on a monthly basis. Of course this shit has always been brought up before, but I always knew that the fresno co. trails were equally as challenging and scenic.
