progress....

Thanks to my buddy, I got to borrow his 1.25 die and bent my track bar. Two clicks was all it needed.

Then I mocked up my track bar location on the axle

And then had to bend the track bar on the other side....it is now a smile :)

Fabbed up the track bar bracket on the axle

Axle is in and centered.

I ended up removing the drivers bump stop on the axle and making it out of 3x3 and tied the track bar bracket into it. There is two tubes in it bridging the main two pieces together.

I took the radius arm that was on the buggy and chopped off the top UCA on it and welded on a bracket to hold a seperate UCA. This will only be a temporary/spare set up until I can get my swaged arms all done and dialed in. Not the prettiest welds but it should do it....

Got my new spool. It is pretty nice....for a spool. Strange branded.

I then pulled the welded open carrier and got the spool installed.

Finished up tonight with some needed paint on the chassis :beermug:

Thanks Guys!

Well, made some progress on the REAL control arms.

If you recall the 2" 4130 I posted earlier in the thread, I took them to get swaged and they are cool!

With the UCA bracket it should be close to this:

Tomorrow these arms are going to CTM Racing in Oceanside to be reamed, shortened, and tapped for my rod ends. :celebrate:

I don't think I'll get these done in time for KOH but it will be close. Once I get them back from CTM, I have to place and tig weld the UCA bracket in place on the passenger LCA and put hard brake line stops on the drivers side LCA. After all that, these need to be sent out for heat treat. ;)
hey cracker why did you get you links done like that? im not to savey on that.
A couple of reasons.

After the heat treat, there really isn't much anything stronger than a set up like this. Take a look at aero-space and they do lots of stuff like this. Weight-wise, these are not heavy either....way lighter than alloy links. After the heat treat, the arms are very hard and 'slide' easily over rocks and resist gouging significantly, unlike DOM. These were swaged to correct inner diameter size and will be bored and tapped unlike welded bungs that can pull out over time.

Since, I am replicating the way the rig the way the suspension is, I have a minor clearance issue so the taper at the ends get me out of this issue.

I have seen people racing KOH with set ups like this as well and I have had them in the past. After 4 years of the Hammers, the last set I had looked brand new (almost no gouges) and I sold them used for $300. The (only) real negative is that it is VERY expensive to do. The cost of the swage is the same for one than it is for eight after they set up the equipment. I have 4 guys wanting to do this same set up with 1 1/4" rod ends so I will probably organize another LCA build in the near future for them.

Looking great man....

Those arms are cool.... but logically I see them as weak. Thanks for the explanation.

It's coming....

Got my U-joints in the shafts tonight and pulled the ARC welder out. My buddy is coming up from San Diego to nickel rod weld the UCA to the casting tomorrow.

If all goes well, I MAY have the complete front axle assembled this weekend and painted :)

And damn dude... good to hear your front is almost done. Let's see some pics of that RAM when it's all mounted up.

Offer wasn't joints......it was shafts but they will be expensive as all hell. You said you were too cheap for stuff like that.

Ram should look no different than the prior pics but with paint and installed I'll shoot a couple of pics.

Yeah... I wanna see how it clears.

I am cheap. I am going to run the stock shafts for awhile, they are 1.5", 35 spline monsters. I think they will be pretty decent for now. I can pick up stock spares for next to nothing. Wouldn't mind upgrading the joints to something stronger though. Thought you had a line on the joints.

Got a lot done today....

Removed and cleaned up the old chassis shock mounts, replaced the front axle seals, assembled the front axle and sealed the diff cover, and built the upper control arm.

Radius arm with all the rod ends has more lateral slop than I expected....need to solve that issue before wheelin' it for the first time.

Either I am brilliant or a f***ing moron....I suspect the latter.

I have 10+ old rod ends at the house. I pressed out the ball and the ball retainer and discovered that the ID of the resulting 'hole' left was 1.23". I took a 1.25" .25" wall piece of DOM and trimmed it to the 1.75" my bracket is set to and pressed it into the rod end with a 20 ton press. Bolted it up and all slop is gone yet I still have pinion angle adjustability. I will use a 3/4" bolt to bolt this all together. Problem solved? Maybe.

Then I played with the hydralic lines and it is shitty....I will have to run this like this at KOH until I can make a better set up....going to tig weld up some tube, AN fittings and what not and fix this with my buddies help.

The I started working on the shocks.....got one of the ends tack welded in place. I went to flext the axle to a different position to check for tolerances and the axle fell pinching the 9100 shaft between the radius arm and the chassis....BOOM. I spoke to Bilstein and am meeting them out on the lakebed on Feb 2nd to get this rebuilt....FML.
