Sierra Trek 2013: Aug 8-11

Postby Desert Dog » January 8th, 2013, 9:48 am

OK guys, the dates are finally out for the 2013 Sierra trek on Fordyce. August 8-11.

I just took August 7-12 off of work to attend.

More details to come as the trip gets closer. Will need at least 35s, short wheelbase, lockers at both ends, and built/upgraded axles. Be prepared for deep water crossings and possible body damage.

Interesting date selection they made. The Jeep Jambo is the same weekend and the Jeepers Jambo is two weeks prior. This leaves a very poor weekend for my plan to work (do both), as the Con will be a highway at that point (if it isn't already).

What else good is up that way? Inst't there a Moon Rocks or something ? I definitely want to make a week out of it and wheel in more than one spot.... 400-500 in gas is just too much to be making multiple trips out that way like I did last year.

Is anyone else up for my thoughts or should I not worry about making this part of that trip? I do plan on doing Fordyce again this year, but planned on not doing the Trek... nothing wrong with the Trek, just think I am happier in a less crowded, more open environment (e.g. I think it would be nice to spend a night on the trail itself, in fact... my plan is to setup at Meadow lake, run the trail backwards, then come back to base). If I do not do the Trek, it would be in the same time period, as that is when the flow is down.

So... depending on who likes my ideas or not.... I am in (maybe).

I thought about possibly going. I meet the actual requirements. I have wanted to run this one previous years just was never able to make it. I dunno if i will be able to this year either but here is a statement from their site regarding requirements for anyone else who may want to go.

From their site

The Fordyce Creek is a challenging trail, requiring precision driving skills and a well-maintained vehicle. We require at least one locking differential and minimum of 33-inch tires (lift kits strongly recommended). Trail crews assist where needed they DO NOT carry spare parts for your vehicle. It will be a lot more fun if your rig is in good condition.

Both vehicles last time received considerable damage in this trail on 37s and very armored. I'd take that recommendation with a grain of salt. Also, on 33s one might be 5 or so inches lower... water crossings will be a bitch.

This trail is harder than the Con.
