If all of those stories weren't true 4643 wouldn't have finished.

Cliff had stories of him and Old Bob running Sledge on 31s with no locker. Lots of winching.

AJ knows of a guy that knows a guy that knew a guy that knows a guy that is in IOR that claims he did Sledge on 28s with a broken posi and two blown tires and a third tire that lost a bead... I think they might have blown an engine and had gnomes came out of the exhaust to add anal rape to the insult and injury of it all. And that guy isn't Josh or anyone else talking Persian Pleasure... someone believes they did that.

But now that Floppy ran it in his flop machine, I believe it could be done on a tricycle. :thefinger: :thefinger:

Good job man!! that is a hard trail. :Thumb: :Thumb:

Congrats Richard!!!!

Someone will have to explain how this worked seeing all but five got a DNF and Richard was not one of those five..... or at least that is how I read the results. Race course was fucked up, seeing so many had issues even finishing.

He finished the course. Doesn't mean he finished it in time. They did get the 2nd place trophy though.

Time cut-off was 5pm and at that time only 1 Stock-mod rig had "finished". Richard "Finished" a couple hours later. His vehicle crossed the line.... not many in either class did.

They let Richard finish because he was the only one past the last checkpoint when time ended (so they couldn't send him back). Richard was kicking some booty out there. Sucks that they gave The EMC 8 hours, yet gave the unlimited rigs 12 hours on basically the same course. Even in the Unlimited class, only 27 out of 130 rigs could finish.

This was quite possibly the hardest off-road race in racing history, and Richard was in the most difficult class.

Wow... GJ went up Sledge? Can't wait to see his rig looking more like mine tomorrow night. :thefinger: :Thumb: And who made the waterfall?

Holy SHIT!!! there are a LOT of rocks stacked in the undercut.... let me guess, it was a cakewalk for all?

It looked like this one week prior.....

And I thought there were more rocks in there than the last time I went through.

Nice.... assume with the rocks, they needed no winch line? I am going to guess the time I made it was due to the bottom looking like your pic.

For me at least.... I can get a tire up over the pointy rock, but my rears get hung in the undercut and there is a diff catcher back there as well that makes getting on the right line difficult.

Oh.... thanks for sharing the pics.... they are awesome!

How was CB? Pics??

Sweet.... I really like wheeling there too. Can't wait for the pics!!

I am sure, no matter how many rocks were down there, it was still a challenge. That is a tall ass rock you gotta put your tires on... just nice to not have to worry about that undercut.... I have come very close to back flipping right there a couple different times last trip out when trying to back off for a different line. Without the rocks in there, you have to climb out and then risk catching that same diff catcher that makes the line going in hard to get.

Sledge is always changing. Back When I ran it with 35"s on my JK - I thought it was pretty easy and wondered what the hype was about (although we only ran to the mailbox). Then when Richard, Henry, and I ran it a few times on 37s, it was a bitch getting through. Now, its pretty damn easy again. I also noticed that the lines constantly change on that trail - what is an impossible line today will be the easy line in a few months, and vise versa. My buggy pretty much went right up to the mailbox without stopping - but upper sledge was much tougher.

Turkey claw was the easiest trail in JV a year ago, but now the lower part is getting a little more difficult - and the upper section is much harder.
Everything seems to move around on those trails.

Aarons rig seems to be doing much better with the changes. I noticed it is a lot more stable now and is flexing good in the rocks. He climbed through the "dif garden" on Turkey Claw pretty easy. Maybe it was just the "special" wiper fluid that he was using.

It's more stable now cause matt and I relocating the rear shocks for more flex. I just ordered the clayton long arm rear coil conversion with air shocks. Now we'll see what it's capable of.

So for the past 2 years I've helped Richard and the NAXJA guys out with 4643, and I intend to do this for as long as they race it. With an opportunity to work on a car I don't think I'll ever have a "normal" KOH event, so instead of being able to run the trails in my jeep with all of you I forfeit that and help with a race jeep. We can all go to Johnson Valley any time we want there's only one KOH.

Victory Celebrations.

The first 2 days I was there things were pretty uneventful for 4643, so I could have gone on some runs, but none of you were out there yet. The 4700 class raced at 5 on Monday. I just couldn't stop laughing about that. I did drive my jeep out to Johnson one day and then we went to watch the unlimited race with it. Blew a shock out in the woops. Tuesday Richard and Cal pre-ran a lot of the desert to mark rough spots on the gps. When they got back we made a list of to-dos about the car. New leafs came in the next morning so we changed them out. We also dealt with some drive shaft issues and installed the in-car communication system from PCI. Later that night GoPros were positioned around the car.

Drive-in theatre

During the EMC race I was manning pit 1 in the early morning. I forgot to load the fire extinguishers. so I ran back from pit 1 to Hammertown in probably record time. The only thing that slowed me down was being on 247 because the CHP had 3 cars patrolling the road around that time. Running down Boone rd. I decided to pass on the right in the woops a few times, but heavy old Big Bird didn't like that too much. I managed to crack the tie-rod all the way around. I'm grateful it was sleeved. We fixed that the day of the Unlimiteds. After the car past pit 1 we loaded up and went back to Hammertown. I decided to go up to pit 2. I was feeling good at the time I made this decision. When I got to pit 2 we had just heard that the car was starting to head up hwy 19/20. I helped set another tire on a rim. Then it hit me. I got extremely tired so I slept on the tool box of Big Bird. I walked around a little bit, and that's when I really knew I was gonna puke a lot. After the car left the pits they found a willing person to give me a ride back. Anything I drank or ate wouldn't stay down, so i slept instead.

At this point I was actually crying because I was so happy to see them make it this far. Last year was such a let down. I hope the whole sick thing played a part in the tears also.
