Awsome day and great weather.

We had 13 rigs and over 20 people show. For the first time in IOR history, everyone made it to the trailhead on time!

While airing down, a Ventura County Sheriff on a dirt bike came by, gave us a look, then left. 15 minutes later, a Sheriff in a 4x4 truck came in Dome Springs road and started driving through all of the side roads in the area. We thought it wise to stay as far away from Snaggletooth as we could, so decided to drop into the wash at the picnic bench. The Sheriff rolled up on us and told us that we could not go in the picnic area, stating the picnic area was closed????? Then, directed us to run east and drop into snaggletooth well above the place where it is closed off? The Sheriff was really cool and gave us all some very nice Forest Service maps, but was keen on telling us that if we ran up snaggletooth, he would cite us. So the Sheriff drove along the top of snaggletooth to make sure that we ran out. In the years of going to this area and camping there, I have never seen Sheriffs patroling the trails, just the Rangers that would drive through daily.

It looks as if the Ventura County 4 Wheel Club's monument to their unholy relationship with the Sierra Club is now gone (the closure signs they happily posted). Either ripped away by nature's fury, or removed by one of the thousands of wheelers who are unhappy with the "douche-bagness" of VC4WD. Any way, thanks for putting BC109 on the radar assholes :moon: .

So, we ran out snaggletooth (as directed by the Sheriff) and ran the main wash (which the Sheriff said was completely legal). The wash was totally dry, which made wheeling much easier, but also meant no mud to clean when we got home :wings:

The whole group was up for a challenge and hit the good lines. Floppy didn't flop, but got some nice body damage trying. Before leaving, I found a hard line in the boulder fields that everyone got denied on. Jeremy gave it hell and ended up twiting his rear driveline in half!

Another great day with some awesome people.

Was a great time. Now I have to decide on if I want to get a $$$ big name Drive-Line or a locally made one. The Proshaft unit did me fine for over 10 years until that ill placed rock... I wonder how the Performance Drive-Line will hold up.

If it weren't for the rock you'd still be in business. If you could just get them to redo it with thicker walled tube.

Just make sure you specify that you want it made with .250 wall. They only do it if you ask.

i cant get them to make one out of .250 but mine are .188 and do ok but you pretty much have to hold there hands or they wont build what you want and then take a while to do that!! in my opinion get one from somewhere else! im all for helping the local shops but it seems like they all want to _uck you or take forever so now i shop on line or out of town!

Speaking of shafts from performance for some reason i always seam to get quick service and done right and beefy everytime...

Ill stop by there when i get a chance and talk to them about a club deal/guarantee it just dont seem right that between 5 personal shafts for me and a dozen or so now from work that some in club feel like they are getting a raw deal

Ordered mine today, they said they would have it by the weekend. $390. They said they could not rebuild my old one with thicker tubing.

I too, use "performance"

we've had a few issues with them, but over all, i'm just tickled :salute:

going through many posts, i see discontent with parts/ shipping and those
same folks telling you what you want to hear instead of the truth.

maybe it's just US

Performance did my gears when i still had big green. They did a fine job for me. Issues i had later were trying to get driveline parts and them saying it would be in and when i called they said it was in and drive down there and it not being there (about 3 times).

A performance shaft built for Bigfoot's jeep grenaded while driving down Fruitvale going to work, it had never been offroad and was weeks old. The ear on the bottom yoke broke. I have a suspicion that it wasn't made with new parts. They made us a new one and it has been great.

The front performance shaft in my JK smashed in and pinched in half a couple years ago (it was several months old at the time). It was made from VERY thin material. They made me a new one out of .188 wall in and I am sill running it.

Bottom line: Buying from JE Reel, Tom Woods, or Coast will get you a much better off-road shaft, made with better materials than what you can get locally. The only drawback is that they are expensive and custom orders usually take a long time to ship. Performance can have a shaft made/fixed within a couple days if you put a rush on it.

Performance is making the shafts for my buggy. Its a tricky 2-piece in the front, so they are coming out to take measurements. We are telling them to make it BEEFY. We will soon find out how much abuse their beefiest shafts can take!

Coast is here in Ventura and can turn around pretty quickly. I would guess, if you pre planned it with them, you could have something repaired or even made up while you wait.
