We are at a stopping point right now... awaiting the dies for the bender and a spool of nickle ($$$)... then work on the basket, cage, and all other tube work will commence. The only big parts I am missing are the seats (ordered), struts (ordered), and the axle shafts, which should be here tomorrow.
I previously stated I was looking to run a 24" belly height.... well that is tall! But, in light of the longer wheelbase of 115" (end result: 10 in the rear, 9 up front) I will have JKU type issues with brake over... so 24, maybe 26 is what I'll be shooting for. The width and length should make it stable, with a ton of unsprung weight in those boat anchors I attached. Currently in this pic above, it is sitting at about four inches lower than ride height. It will be BIG!
Wheelbase was lowered the one inch because of clearance issues with the radiator and all the junk that attaches to the axle.
The narrowing that I was considering for the front is up to debate over here... after we get the struts we will cycle the suspension and see what kind of clearance I have up there..... currently thinking about 6 and eight on the front struts, but so easy to change if I decide differently later. I have decided, but not exactly sure where to cut yet, to cut out the b pillars. This will allow us to narrow the rear starting right behind the seats, rather than keep it full bodied for those eight or ten inches.

And I could not be doing it without this guy! Josh whom is an expert welder, suspension guru, and taking his time to teach me quite a bit during the project (part of the reason it is slow going). I can now weld! It's not pretty... but he says penetration is good. His machine might make it easy though.... 100% duty cycle and turned up REALLY Hot.... which worked for me as I am not as slow as I should be with my beads. I think, once I figure out how to see my "path" better and learn to relax a bit (sure that will come with confidence), I'll do much better. Hell, I own a bender... might as well buy a welder too.

The two people that have been a HUGE help have been Pink Sock and Chris! Pick Sock has been with Josh and I the entire time building and Chris has been instrumental in getting us tools we didn't have, as well as supplying the Pizza (how did I get out of that??). There are a lot of others that have either showed up for support and a few that have worked or given solid advice (Justin, Kody, Jeff, Roger, Matt.... and anyone I forgot! (sorry... so busy)). thank you to all of you... ALL OF YOU!
And lastly.... one person has given us something of great value for the project... AJ, opening his shop to us is amazing. AJ, you are a great friend!
I am counting my lucky stars.... really, you all are great friends! I almost wished I lived local to you guys.... almost! I love the beach way too much! Speaking of the beach... what ever happened to that Josh guy that was going to set something up? In fact... what happened to that guy all together... if he's not local, maybe he should start a IOR chapter.
Sorry for the love fest... but I need to acknowledge the help.
