While I feel the numbers are important and I will take them into account... Josh is designing the system, so it will be his call unless I decide to override... no need for that as he is much smarter with this than me. If the calculated numbers are really far off, we can step back and figure out why. He did calculate the "roll axis" I believe... he was very concerned at first, but the intersection came forward of the front of the rig and he said that was what we need. I have been watching him putz around and notice he often sitting running numbers in his head as he looks around the work we've done or getting ready to do.... I have little doubt there will be a more capable JK on the face of this earth.... at least for now.
/\ 4 link calculator and basic instructions, plug in numbers of setup and can get general idea of how suspenion will act
If you know what the numbers mean. :thefinger:

Cracker was fucking with you. OK, so do you want .95 anti-squat or do you want .65? Or do you want 1.10? The calculator tells you what you have, but you have to know what you want. Few really know. The best guys I've run across don't use it. It is handy for figuring roll center height on a 4 link, higher the better but what will that change the AS and what AS do you want?

Brad, how come 115" wheelbase? That's long. Yes, you'll want more ride height for better break over angle but that means a higher center of gravity, and you want a low center of gravity. Why push the front axle so far forward? I'd rather have a little shorter wheelbase and a shorter ride height and lower center of gravity and better stability. Sounds like Josh wants to build you one of those East coast rigs, big and long. But, you don't have the horsepower that makes them work. Remember, you want to go to Ridgecrest, and big and long doesn't work there. The last big and long guy we took there came back and totally re-worked his buggy after the trip.

But with all do respect I did luckily finish high school and geometry was included and also talking with several great builders I think I got a little know how to get it to do half ass decent! So you got your instant center... I'll figure the anti-squat later.

Homework was done... just not college level... we decided to take it up a notch and get a doctorate in kicking ass. :thefinger:

Avery.... you knocking the lowly high school educated? That's mean buddy... I am poorly educated.

But hell... we knew you were a fucking prick the minute we met you... so it's all good.

Seriously... we are open to all suggestions and I have no idea of anyone else's feelings, but I still love you like a sister.

@Richard... I think the wheelbase is a tad on the long side. Time will dictate how well it works or doesn't. Seeing the shocks will be slightly kicked out, if problems do occur, moving it a bit back should be as easy as redoing the arms and maybe moving the track bar bracket on the frame side. Going full hydro and using the struts makes all of that easier, I think. What's that to shorten it.... three joints and (maybe) a TB bracket? Not too bad a gamble.

It's so strange how I did a ton of homework when I was figuring the leaf springs and steering on the commando and even with the wiring, but now I just go for it. I did that with the wiring also. Thinking things out sometimes gets very confusing. It's totally better to have what you want in mind and build to that. Just to have daily goals is a good way to get more done. I think that's why I've lost a lot of motivation with the commando. I've just completely lost sight of what can be done.

Dies for the bender are the hold up... which is completely pissing me off. The fucker that sold the thing to us recommended we do not order extra dies and in the end.... we are paying for listening to him, as they are not easy to get. Supposed to be shipping on the 21st, but I am calling BS until I see them.

Bit of advice.... do not buy anything until you can verify they have everything in stock. I am getting bent over several times here and there waiting on shit. JIT manufacturing doesn't work for direct customer applications.

I am very upset that I bought a 3000+ bender and can't get dies. I would not buy JD*2 again!

Dang bud I'm trying to get them as fast as I can! If you want I'll pay you for the bender! Everyone says this is the busiest time of the year is why they haven't shipped yet! I'm definitely trying to bother them enough to just get my shit shipped so they don't have to deal with me no more!

Everyone is way behind right now. I know people that have to wait months for tires. I waited 5-6 weeks for my ORIs, 2 months for my Atlas, 2.5 months for my knuckles, 1.5 months for RCVs, and even gears were tough to get. I have been waiting since December 21st for my custom shift knobs! I ordered a chromoly u-joint for my JK on Saturday, and it still hasn't shipped!!!

We just have to accept the fact that parts are not going to ship in a timely manner right now. Most of these small specialty manufactures maintain a small shop and workforce to meet normal demand, but get way behind when they experience temporary spikes in orders. Now, this doesn't excuse vendors that tell you something is in stock and ready to ship, knowing that it is not. Or vendors that keep lying to you telling you that your order has shipped when it has not. That is bullshit.

If you guys knew that you were using different diameter tube in advance, it would have made sense to order the dies for everything when you initially placed the order, no? Going back to order more dies while you are in the middle of the project isn't all the fault of the company selling the equipment IMO.

In a perfect world, everything is meticulously planned out and all of the materials needed to do the job are on hand prior to the start of the project. But it is not a perfect world and never quite turns out that way, especially since most of us are impatient as hell. Personally, I think it is a good thing that you guys have slowed down a little and are taking your time - even if its due to waiting on parts. It gives you time to research and consider every step you make. You are not rushed into doing things half-assed just to get it done. It makes you go slower when running your beads, and measure everything 3 times before you cut. Look at all the small changes you have made to the "original plan" already. In the end, your build will be much better than if you guys tried to slap it together in a week. No hate, just my opinion.

No Josh... you are good. Not your fault they are slow as all fuck.

Remember what the guy told us when we bought it.... "don't buy extra dies, its a mistake everyone makes. Buy as you need, they are readily available" or some shit to that effect.

That is what I am mad about... he lied to us.

And thanks Matt... I'll let Josh make that call, but assume we want to use this very expensive bender.

That's the rub Chris.... we wanted to order several dies and the guy talked us out of it and told us they were readily available as we needed them.

Sounds like they were already behind and didn't want you to order your dies at time because they needed to satisfy other orders !!

When I built my bender I ordered my dies and had to wait extra three weeks for two of the three that I ordered ..
