With the cage i wanted more room on the inside of the jeep than i had before so i was going to go behind the dash. well by doing so i had to hack up my dash a lot for it to go back in. I didnt like how it was after doing so. So I am building a custom dash off of the cage and going to tie it into the body as well. I need to finish up the cage before i can finish the dash though. But this is where it is at this point.

You should build your dash out of sheet metal not card board :lol2:
Love the cage and dash layout!
Thanks. It is a huge difference from the other cage i had. I am way happier with this design as for head room, leg room and over all protection. Still a lot more to do to it. Need to do the X behind both seats, tie into the a pillar, b pillar, c pillar and d. Need to work out the design for the legs for the c pillar as well. I figure at the rate im going the cage should be 100% complete in about a month. Dash should be finished up within two weeks.

Perhaps you could do the dash in a light gauge stainless steel. It's definitely a plus if it's easily removable.

Nice work.

Thanks Travis.
im looking at doing it in 16 gauge most likely. Its cheaper than aluminum and plus i plan on wrapping it in vinyl anyways.

well i got more done to it yesterday and today. This evening we are finishing up the main section of the cage (hopefully) so i will be able to complete the dash. I picked up some 16 gauge plating yesterday at B and B and begun cutting the dash pieces. The top dash plate will be welded in place and welded back at the windshield as well. The front of the dash sections will be secured with some self tapping screws for the time being. I am reusing my stock gauge cluster (modified to fit) until i can get a full set of matching aftermarket gauges and senders.

As for the center console section, it too will be secured with the screws. Im going to build a storage box into the center console that will serve as an arm rest as well. I may have to relocate the ebarke as well but have yet determined if and how i will do so. Im thinking i will also be building a cover for the 4 wheel drive linkage just to keep everything looking like it goes together vs unfinished.

I am going to just paint this for now. After i get the gauges i am considering wrapping it in vinyl or some type of material, (maybe zebra print :hitfan: ) .

All i have left is the center consol, Top dash plate, toggle switches, and install bulbs for my part time, e brake, washer fluid, check engine light. I know i dont need them all but i do like having them to let me know what is going on. I also need to mount my CB still and then finish up the cage. I defiantly am happy with it so far.
