Be interesting to know what actually went wrong. Guy should have made sure everyone was clear before he started messing with his Jeep anyways.
It happened after the Jeep was stacked and engine was off says one report, then another says it was moving?
Lots of things can happed:
* Driver can panic and hit gas instead of brake
* almost all of the body damage I have seen from Jeep stacking are when a manual trans Jeep dumps the clutch while climing a tire.
* I have seen a Jeep almost roll when he lost control trying to climb a tire in 4-hi
* tire can slip off from people moving around in the stacked jeeps (happens all the time)
* the rig on top may have been barely balancing there, and any slight movement could sent it over
* Tire can lose bead and slip off
* A stupid drunk may have thought it was funny to rock the jeep on top (unfortunately, very common)
* He may have had the trans bound under torque when he put it in park, then held it there with the e-brake - so it was slowly rolling off.
* He may have had a manual trans that popped out of gear
* The shocks/springs may have been slowly unloading which put the Jeep past the tipping point
The best prevention is to just stay away from and do not touch vehicles while stacking. and the driver should still be buckled in. The girl who was killed was sitting on top of the jeep (one report said the hood).
Probably a million Jeeps stack in this country, and this is the first death I have ever heard of. Your chances of choking and dying on a piece of hard candy is 1000 times more likely. But this will be another excuse to get those "stupid red-necks in their 4x4s" that destroy the environment and try to teach people to be self-reliant.
