5/26/13 freeway ridge night run

Ok for roger, Scotty Aaron, AJ and I started our day at 4:15, we all met at rancheria road and unloaded our vehicles where the dirt meets the road. We got unloaded and raced up rancheria, we had a few mishaps, aaron lost his air filter AJ overheated a little, rogers was pissing fluid. Scotty went left instead of right following some lil subaru to their house lol, but we finally got to the entrance of black gulch by 5:15, aired down disconnected and left by 5:30.

So the trail started like all trails do doing the easy stuff we were driving by a side trail MAYBE a 1/2 mile into black gulch, roger asked who wants to do the extra credit line, we all agreed to do it, roger went then I did then Aj... Roger and I made it no problem, AJ got 1/2 way up and his transmission went, he wasn't doin anything crazy it was just its time to go. Well we got him off the hill looked over his jeep and decided we couldn't make a trail repair. So I strapped to his front Scotty strapped to his back in case his brakes failed I didn't get mowed over. And we pretty much finished the rest of the trail like that. Rogers nephew drove the yota most of the way, roger climbed on top of the rig hung off the side skinned off by a few trees. It was good times. Even in tow we made it to the bottom by 7:45 waiting on the group to get passed gate keeper. With help everyone made it, I pulled AJ down gatekeeper and to the bottom. Unhooked and raced back up freeway.

After 20+ rigs saw gatekeeper it was really chewed up! What was normally an easy obstacle took me 2 attempts to get up!, I got up it, raced up freeway in 2wd trying to catch the group because fully knowing I was coming back up... I was left behind to fend for myself. Scotty waited long enough to see me pass gatekeeper but had to get to the group as well. I caught them a little past the keysville trail. And that's about the time my wonderful gas light flashes on and off. I guess all the pulling and stuff drained my tank.

And then the drive and wait began... The rest of the trail took 5 hours to complete, everyone got seperated lost radio contact between groups, we had a little vehicle of our own to take care of. Apparently "floppy" got into a rut and layed it on its side, it wasn't a roll over it wasn't even that bad, it took 4-5 guys to put it back on its wheels. The rest of the trail aside from being slow going went fine for us. Just another walk in the park for half of the group I was with but we helped each other out and completed the trail right around midnight.

Hey Arron and I did the extra credit run with no troubles too!!! Lol

What a long night. The group was so big I didn't even realize we got seperated. I personally didn't have any troubles, thankfully, but others did and I helped as much as I could. Stacking rocks at gate keeper, helping AJ down, hiked back down helping floppy get out of the rut off his side and going again, guiding people thru the can opener so they didn't get ripped open and whatever else I could do. Well I started in the back cause after everyone got to the top of gate keeper they left Mikey at the trail head who had to finish getting AJ down so he could get trailered home. Well Roger and I waited at the top turn once we saw he got past the hard part we started up. I caught everyone at the keysvillle turn off too.

I was in the back but Somehow I ended up in the middle I guess. I got to rancheria and got a phone call saying they were stuck by the can opener. I lost the call and like 10 min later i got to a spot on rancheria where I had service so I called and was gonna go back and help but was told there was plenty of help and they were fine. So I continued on with my ready to go home 7yr old.

Long day and night for me and my son Tyler. We both had a blast. My jeep did awesome!!! The trail was pretty chewed up and rutted out. It's no place for a stock vehicle. I think we found that out last night. Ive done it on 31's lifted 4" but My personal opinion, to do the trail with little to no problems a minimum requirement would be 33's. All and all super fun trip. Look forward to the next one!!!

That was a lot of fun last night. Waiting in line to go up gatekeeper the wife got a little anxious watching all the trouble people were having. Once we got over she had a blast the whole time. First night run for me and I've got to say I can't wait for the next one. There was another truck out there that provided some good entertainment as well. Great time guys.

The wife and I left an 1 1/2 hour later then everyone thinking we would be able to catch up somewhere on the trail. Much to my surprise we turned to corner at trailhead and the group was still at gatekeeper. Noticed where everyone was having trouble and went hard to the right and up and over... And then pilled in the HUGE group of rigs, somehow got with the front group and was off the trail by midnight. Had a great time. Glad we made it. Thanks Justin and Frances for the invite.

I had a blast. Thanks to all that helped flop me back over, saved my son, tools, and especially the beer. Sorry I left some members behind. I had no idea anybody broke.

What side did you do in less than an hour? Left side or right? I am willing to give that a shot I usually just cruise up it, I pulled someone down freeway in 2 hours so 1 hour shouldn't be that bad!

I was waiting with Justin till about 2am and his tow rig was still in the lot when I left... Not sure but Justin and Frances said they were going to wait around longer to see if he got off the trail ok.

I talked to him @ 1930 and he just got his rig loaded on the trailer. He sounded like he had a very bad day. I think he deserves an award for the longest recovery.

very eventful run! Picking up a new trans today from pick up salvage. They are giving me a hell of a deal. May just have it in by tomorrow or Thursday.

that was the longest 24 hrs of my life
we tried several trail repairs ,with no good results.
it took 3 rigs, and 2 winches to get me off the mountain.
poor justin was stuck with me for 18 hrs.>> thank you buddy!!!!!!!
matt & becs came back out to lend a hand(and a winch)
my bro. came out to help tow(i think he found it funny)
Pat from "shocker motorsports" stopped what he was doing and
brought some parts up on the mountain.
got back to the trailer at 7:00 pm> my energy was spent
my patience was long gone
and i was frustrated as hell.
it wasn't that my rig had let me down,, it was more about being a burden to my friends
for 18 freeking hours

my thoughts on the end of sunday night: I no longer believe in "karma"
Starting at the gate keeper> i helped(along with a few others) several rigs over the top> towing, rock stacking, spotting, while many in the group watched from above.
on several other obstacles, i assisted others until my rig failed. don't get me wrong,,, i love this shit. i was totally excited when i saw this huge group coming up gate keeper. i was prepared for a long night ( i thought)

as far as the group separating: i think it would have been a huge "CLUSTERFUCK"
if everyone had stuck around, and i would have felt that much more down about being a burden. the guys/gals that helped me through this are the ones i wheel with most. these are the people that i have experienced similar days with.

that's just how it is, we're a little tighter>> thank you again for being there.

as soon as i get my ignition issue fixed
i'll organize & post it.
there is TRULY something for EVERY rig on
this run. the trails are easy to chalenging on stockers
on up to challenging for the highly built rigs.
IT'S JUST WAY BETTER THERE.

i swear rancharia rd. gets 20 miles
longer each time i travel it


i would love to see a large group come and do a night run
again in our neck of the woods.

and we can set up a camp before we go out on a run
there is an area right off the hwy with trees near Goler wash. i
think it would be perfect.

shall i "propose" it? what say you?

i believe it is the igniter for the coil (common on older yotas)

gonna have to pack spares, or,, i've heard of a GM parts swap
for a quarter of the price. need more research at this time
