Has anyone had issues with there 3.8l getting warm at idle such as sitting in drive thrus or stop lights. Mine typically will get about 220-230. Thought about a lower degree thermostat any ideas

Mine hasn't either... but I am living in a place that doesn't regularly see temps that would make the devil himself sweat.

220-230 isnt super hot. When was the last time you changed out your coolant? Also half of the fins on your condenser are bent over, you should try and strighten those out. I wouldnt go lower than spec on the thermostat.

Ya it's a more recent deal and of course the summer heat isn't helping. I may flush everything and check the water pump to

My 2008 has never overheated.

Even going up the Grapevine at 3700 RPMs with 42s, it barely goes over the halfway mark.

I flush my cooling system and refill every year.

My 07 has NEVER overheated. Been at 5k rpm on some long stretches on the sand dunes and in the desert and its never moved no matter what I through at it. Grapevine I am regularly over 4k rpm in 5th doing around 55mph, if I can get the rpms up I can usually go to 6th untell someone makes me brake...
In cooling regards Im pretty happy with the engine.

Never have once flushed the coolent and have only needed to add a couple of cups of water to top off the reservoir once or twice.

It might be just the fan cycling off and on, I can hear mine come on and off at idle. I would make sure your fins and straight and clean, a lot of times mud will get caked up between the front of the fan shroud and radiator. In winter you dont notice it but once summer hits just a good cleaning will do wonders. I go through this situation every year with our service trucks and line trucks.

I once over heated on the trail in 4hi on Miller. Added a cooler addition and never saw the issue again. This I'd a known issue, but only in 4hi. Fix may work for you?
