Looking GREAT!!!
Thanks man.

Yesterday was a slow one. We got a late start yesterday and unfortunately, didn't get too much done.

Rear is getting there, almost done. I dropped my fuel cell in there and wasn't exactly happy... that thing takes up a TON of room. Almost all my storage back there will go to gas and beer. While those might be important, so are tools, plugs, and a change of clothes/jackets/etc.. I figure for longer trips I can strap shit to the roof and above the cell... kinda Beverly Hillbilly, but have you seen everyone else on trails like the Con? :) The cell may lose though for a custom one. I am going to look around and debating on just making one myself. Likely, I'll run this one for a couple of trips and see how I like it... 20 gallons of fuel is NICE to have.

And thanks to everyone that has stopped by to help and give advice. And Josh.... you're the best man!! You guy are almost making me want to move closer..... but yeah, that will never happen. :thefinger:

Looks like I'll make my first Bako meeting tonight. While I believe my liver is safe.... will your lungs be? :bleh:
after most of the m&g's,, my "check liver light" comes on. why would yours be safe? :drunkbuds:

Nodes, nodes, nodes.......the most important aspect of building a good cage.

Looks like you're burning things in as you go? Normally everything is tacked until it is finished or mostly finished, in case something needs to be changed or moved.

Is this thread for comments, or just for props for working on it?

Don't plan on running a windshield. :)

Just making sure it will fit if and when I want to run it.

The cage "legs" that I think you are getting at will not run through the dash as you see on all the builds on JKO.... since mine is quite different than the strandard build and I threw out all the issues of comfort, streetability, etc., I have plenty of wiggle room to play with different things... such as not running a door allows me to push that leg out and make room for the passengers.

So... to answer your question, I think I'll try and keep it 50/50 on the line, basically where the door goes (so there will be protection, yet not stick out too far).... we'll see how that turns out in practice.

Just some suggestions, take it for what it's worth, maybe someone can learn something for down the road. You guys are missing great opportunities to tie tubes together in nodes. I'm sure you know, but maybe some don't, a node is an intersection of tubes. The more nodes (fewer dead end tubes) the stronger the cage. The bar running from the rearward angled bar down to the belt line bar dead ends, it could have easily tied into where the shock hoop bar ties into the belt line bar, making a node and making both the down bar and the shock hoop bar stronger. Also, the V shaped bars in the B pillar could have extended downward to the lower bar, making an X, rather than both lower bars being straight up and down and both dead ending on the upper end. No more work in either case, but it would make a stronger structure (and knowledgeable people might think you know what you're doing).

Also, the rear shock hoops and shock mounts are adding a lot of material and weight and needlessly cutting down on storage space. They're sexy, but add weight. The same thing could have been done with a straight tube and some small tabs, and it would be lighter and you'd have more storage room. I hate to be a back seat driver, and I just haven't been able to get away and come by to talk about ideas. One of the things that is so important in a build is to have clear build goals. Good goals are simple things like keeping the weight low as possible (both light and low), no dead end tubes (makes you think about nodes), good storage spaces, etc. I know you're going to like what you end up with, and I'm sure it's going to work well. However, there are very simple things that turn it from a good build to a great build.

I see you're still burning things in as you go, so I better shut my trap and go with the crowd. Wow! Looks great guys, can't wait til you get it done so we can go wheeling.

Just having fun, Brad. Maybe I'm not good enough friends with everyone yet to get away with poking fun like that. I keep telling people I'm just an asshole on my best behavior, sometimes it just comes out. BTW, I love the Richard/dick comment......classic.

Yes, I would do a lot of things differently on your build, I think you are missing opportunities to make it a great build. But, we all do things differently which is why our stuff looks different. You're going to have a great time with it when your finished, and I hope you're having fun building it.

I just don't know which one of you is worse...

Richard is criticizing your rig passive agressively. Avery took off and didn't help with a recovery, and Brad told a lost and stranded tweaker to go kick rocks.

So you've got Dick...The condescending piece of shit...and the original asshole...

I think it's a stalemate.
