This is not an infectious run. This is something the trailblazer's have been doing for years and they have extended an invite to us for the past few years. We will be camping along side them at Grouse Lake. This is more of a camping/get-away trip than it is a wheeling trip, and we should be respectful of them for extending the invite.

Last year it opened the first week of July, and the snowpack is less this year.

Most go Thursday night and pitch a tent by the tow rigs. Then roll out around 8 or 9. You could shoot out of bako early and catch them... Maybe 4 or 5.

If anyone needs to top off, Shaver Lake is your last chance. It's on HWY 168 about two miles past the Dinkey Creek turnoff on the right. If you are rolling in late, Prather may be a safer bet.

You're fine to top off the tank in Prather, no need to go into Shaver Lake to top off but you can if you want. There have never been any issues with fuel on this trip, I've even filled in Clovis and driven back to Clovis and been fine. The group should be pulling out from Dinky Creek Fri morning at 8:30. The normal routine is for some to go to the Dinky store and top off the ice while some go to the ranger station to do their morning business, then leave from the ranger station parking lot about 8:30.

We've run the trail from the bottom up the last few years, I'm thinking run it from the top down this year. This would be going down Rooster Rock on Sun rather than going up it on Fri. It's a little longer to get to the lake on Fri but less time to get out on Sun. The trail is fun both ways.

Also, let's figure on doing a pot luck for dinner on Sat. And if anyone has a small compact chain saw to cut firewood, that would be good too.

I just called the ranger station (559) 841-3360. due to high fire risk they aren't allowing fires on any offroad trails or trail campgrounds. Fires at DC campgrounds are under ranger restrictions.

No need to bring any wood or chain saw

How many people are going? I'm planning on going with my 14 yr old daughter.
Hoping to run it from the Bald Mountain side over to Dinkey Creek.

Update on this. I will be leading the trip in for any that want to go in a day early. We can meet at the Dinkey creek Campground at 8:30am THURSDAY the 25th. I will be at the campground Wednesday night.
The main group will be going in on Friday Morning the 26th (also meet at 8:30). Most will be getting to the campground Thursday night.

There may be a group going in on Saturday, but I have not confirmed that yet.

We are going to run the trail BACKWARDS this time. That will make the trip in on day 1 a bit longer, but the trip out on Sunday will be shorter (and easier to drag all of our broken junk out!). For any that would like to go in with me on Thursday, let me know and I will look for you at camp. Let me know if anyone has any questions.
