What channel on the CB do you guys run? I should be meeting a friend in Clovis around 7 in the morning and falling into line somewhere on the trail.

IOR runs channel 4 as primary (because we are a 4 wheel drive club)

IOR runs channel 16 as a back-up (because 4x4= 16 )

Here's some info and directions.

We're going to camp at our usual spot near Dinky Creek on Thurs night, directions below. We'll leave from the Dinky ranger station at 8:30. We're going to run the trail from the top down this year, so we'll be going up Rock Creek Rd past the entrance to the Bald Mtn trail. The Swamp Lake trail gate is right next to the parking lot for the Dinky Lakes trailhead for hiking trails. The trail is good both directions, it will be a little longer going in on Fri and a little shorter going out on Sunday.

Here's directions. Take Hwy 168 from Fresno east about an hour to Shaver Lake. As you are coming into the town of Shaver Lake make a right turn onto Dinky Creek Rd, where there is a sign saying Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs. Go about 12-15 miles on Dinky Creek Rd and look for another sign saying Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs, and make a right turn at the sign onto McKinley Grove Rd. You'll immediately cross the bridge over Dinky Creek then go about a 1/4 mile and you'll see two roads that go to the left, one cuts back sharply and goes to Camp Fresno, and the other one is 10S36, make a left turn onto 10S36 and immediately turn into the trees on the right, which will be our camp. This is no fee camping, and there is room for parking with trailers. There are johns at the ranger station and ice and even breakfast at the Dinky Creek store. If you're driving the wheeling rig it's best to gas up in Prather. There are also places to eat and a grocery store in Prather if you need them Thurs on the drive up.

We're leaving for the trail Fri morning at 8:30. See you there.

We'd like to do a pot luck for Sat dinner.

Be sure to bring your swim suit. And bug repellant.

Jeremy,

I don't understand why you guys risk getting in trouble and interfering with emergency coms by using these frequencies?

You guys use 151.475 all the time (tin benders use it in JV), but you get threatened locally be the fire department because that is the channel they monitor for wildfires. I also got yelled at by the Forest service in El Dorado County for using that frequency before I knew any better.

Now you are suggesting 151.775, which is locally an emergency frequency that is received by a repeater on Lamont Peak. This frequency is also Riverside County Sheriff, Los Angeles Tram System, Orange County Ops, and countless other government services.

Since you guys are not licensed and are not very familiar with ham usage, why not just use the MURS frequencies? No license is required to use them and simplex use is just as good as any other frequency? To save yourselves problems down the road, I would use 151.820, 151.880, or 151.940. You will not get in any trouble for using these frequencies and will not interrupt any public services or business coms.

Not trying to be a wise ass, I just keep seeing a lot of bad advise as ham radio usage grows in the off-road community.

I just copied that from another board that is discussing this swamp lake run. I don't have 2-meter and do not know much about it other than I have to talk my wife into letting me buy... I mean telling her I'm going to buy one.

I do see what you are saying though DD.

Where are you guys buying the cheap inflatable rafts that everyone had last year? I want to get a few for the kids.

I'm only on CB for this trip, don't have VHF in the Cherokee.

Thankfully, it's running again so now I'm starting to pack.

Becks, we will be camping up over 9,000 ft. at Grouse Lake, so there really isn't many animals of any kind at the camp site. I spent 5 days there last year (2 trips) and other than birds and brook trout, the only animal I saw was a marmot. There are lots of deer, bears, snakes and shit at the lower elevations, but not at camp. We are bringing Baron, so Pedro will have a buddy to get into trouble with.

The skeeters can be downright vicious, and they laugh at most bug sprays. 100% DEET seems to be the only thing that is very effective. Also be mindful that it gets cold at night and we wont have a fire this year, so bring plenty of fireball!

Is it to late to add my name to the list and tag along? My jeep is up and running strong and meets all the minimum requirements. I just got the weekend off and a wheeling trip in the mountains sounds amazing.

Becca is correct :(. I'm in the middle of a build for someone and I have found cracks along my frame rail that I need to get too. I wish I was still going but just can't make it.

Hey Cracka, Are you bringing the MJ again, or taking the buggy? That Comanche is fucking sexy; I had a private moment next to it last year - but you couldn't tell with the white paint and all.

And with NAXJA, Trailblazers, 4x4him, Infectious Off-Road, facebook and other groups invited to this shin-dig; should we be placing bets on how many Locked D35s with 35-37" tires are gonna break :stirPot: .

OK, then how many NAXJA steering boxes / frame-rails am I going to have to weld this year :dig: :lol3:

Should we take bets????? :bleh:
