to my knowledge, no one has attempted this waterfall before.
we've been working on it for a year. we had such a dry season
this year, all of the water has dried up and it's very do-able.
unfortunately, this is the only challenging obstacle that we have found
in the area = not a destination, but we could do a "drive by" on our way
somewhere else. or,,,,,,, at my next BBQ,,, we could run down to the crick
and have a go at it (5 min. from my house)

So to get back on track...

I was discussing with brad about boatsides and also reading the koh rulebook 5 times over.

And then i tore jeep apart, cage out, seats out ,tube fenders and sliders removed.

Plan is boatsides intergrated with front fenders. And new cage build, have to haveintergrated seat mounts and allhorizontal door bars and seats tied in to cage.

Let the fun begin

So general plan at this point is to race legends class.

Will have to run a 37" tire for class but should be easy to find on craigslist as takeoffs from lifted f250/350 trucks with blinging aluminum rims.

The current cage changes to make safety spec could have been doable building off what i have already but after looking at it hard a fresh cage without having to cut out the 1.5" tube will be stronger and take about same amount of work to get done.
Plan to have cage done for gorman then after gorman get into the changeover to coilovers and be test running and tuning in october/november timeframe.

I had considered heavily building an all new rig but the cost in parts alone was north of a 20k investment but modifying current rig and keeping trail ready and race ready should be under 7500

Tube work should be done in a couple weeks, definitely before 4wp event, then only other change will be to a bladder type cell after that and installing coilovers, it will be ready for wheeling.

Build it up with new axles, tear it down for a stretch.
Build up with leafs, tear it down for coils.
build it up again for full links, tear it down for air shocks.
build it again to clear 40s, tear it down to strengthen things up and get proper bump.
build it up again, then tear it down and build for KOH safety spec.

Then, Repower to a V8 and worked over trans when you find out that Legends class is all tuned 800HP 6.0 and LQ9s. This class will be breaking 100mph across the lakebed, and may be faster than unlimited due to the smaller tires.......

Then, you find that you have to completely redo the suspension geometry and add trailing arms so you don't die at 100mph, and build new axles to deal with the HP and torque........

Then dispense with the whole body and frame when you realize that Legends class is all unlimited buggies with smaller tires and the bypasses removed (replaced with huge $10k custom coilovers).........

Then go, "ahhh fuck, I should have built a buggy :banghead:

All of us should have just got buggies 3 year ago!!! we would be way ahead of the game :lol3:

Very true, but i also enjoy the building....

If legends is too fast it will also meet mod rules, but mod allows bypasses

Either way the rig will be safer, faster, and stronger for anything i do with it.

Just fuckin whit you bro. I know you enjoy tearing shit up and working wonders at Whitesnake Fab and you have a bad ass Juggy to wheel.

Seriously though, I think you should have built a badass stock-class rig to race. Your fab skills and budget would make your chances at a podium pretty good, and you wouldn't have to spend a fortune to keep up with the jones's. FYI, at this year's KOH, Dave said that he might do away with the mod class because it is not panning out like he envisioned - basically $150k buggies with production-like skins on them are becoming the norm rather than built trail rigs. Basically, Legends may replace mod because mod is already going in that direction.

I was very close to building a stock class rig and may still, just didnt want to start building so late to try to make race ready.

Heck after this is all juggied ill need to build a stock class driver on 35" tires for local trips and moderate wheeling

Good luck. Just run a conservative race and don't worry about the size of the competitions engines.

Because even most in stock class have larger engines. :lol3:

Motor is last of my worries, takes quite a bit of suspension tuning to run out of motor, i would venture to guess that 75% of the field in a full koh race will have more motor than they can ever use.

Old 4.2 is reliable, and no crazy issues that would randomly kill it mid race

Unfortunately, that hasn't been my experience. I don't have enough motor to take advantage of my suspension in my jeep or the buggy

I floor it in my Jeep and buggy across the desert, and my suspension yells "that all you got?". Racing Richard to the trailhead once I did 60 mph and it felt slow as fuck to me, but that's all I had. Matter of fact, the whoops are much smoother at 55mph than they are at 20mph with tuned shocks. I had the same problem with my pre-runner truck; that Toyota v6 couldn't challenge my $2000 suspension upgrade.

Trust me, once you tune the coil-overs/bump and get link geometry perfect, you are gonna want to use all of the skinny pedal :yup:

Have you decided what coil-overs you are going to run? I have always had awesome service with King and they always have lots of parts/support at all of the off-road events. STAY AWAY from FOA; Everyone I know that ran those had problems, and their shocks spent just as much time getting fixed as they did on the rigs. Lots of bad reviews on the interweb.

Do you have to qualify for the KOH? Or do you just have to pass tech?

For the class i will run, pass tech/pay fees

Unless they add a qualifier for the emc

If was running main race would have to do last chance qualifier

No way to tell yet, as this class is not official yet (still in the concept stages) and no official rules have been set in stone or a date when it is going to happen. The thread on Pirate kind of died over a month ago, so hard to tell, but Dave Cole always does his best to make his concepts a reality (that's what made him rich). He is pushing HARD for a spec class to bring in BIG sponsor money from Mopar and others, and bring celebrity racers to KOH, so this might take priority right now. Dave really seems to want a class for the retired KOH buggies to race in, so I'm sure he will get something going with Legends class.

Like Matt said, there probably will not be any qualifying races for this class as long as participation stays reasonably low. Probably just an entry fee of around $1000 (close to stock class). So when he passes tech, he will be representing IOR in the race! Even if the Legends class doesn't happen, Whitesnake can still enter the Mod class at EMC and race. If Toyotas can do it, you know damn well Whitesnake can.

So do you have an outline for a team? Enough resources for support at the remote pits? Spares? Spares for spares? A communication system?

I don't want to discourage you. Just make sure you cover all your angles. It's a lot of stuff to organize in 4 months, and build the car.
