I need a longer drive line was longer splines. according to Tom Woods my (s) spline only has 3 inches of usable stroke. 42 center to center 44 hanging. don't know for compressed. Tom Wood says I need to use the X spline with my shackle reversal system. and possibly a CV if I intend to run a locker. looking at 219 without cv, 299 with CV Plus 60 yolk.

A friend went with Tom Woods in his cherokee front and rear about 4 years ago. He had to have his front shaft warranted twice and it broke a third time, but he hasn't wheeled in about 2 years due to life getting in the way. I don't know if this was due to improper length or alignment with the yoke. His main complaint was the Ujoints in the CV which led me to believe that the CV was just binding at full droop. So it could have been user error the whole time. Take what you want from it.

JE Reel and Tom woods are fairly equal when you get down to it. Also locally is Performance Industries on E21st street. They did the front on mine, but were probably a smidgen over 300. I also had them rebuild my old one besides the sloppy slip yoke which is the reason I had a new one made. Grand total was 430.

I'd stay far and clear from Performance. Issues all around, with customer service being shit (and that is something you need when dealing with issues).

Woods and Reel use a ton of Chinese parts... not sure if that matters to you? I've heard mixed results on both, but more positive than negative.

I really like Coast out here in Ventura... they cost a tad more, but IMO, worth every extra cent. Due to time issues, I had mine redone at Performance.... hoping not to twist a shaft or have any other issues as others have had.

Brad. Coast built mine. Front one is still under my rig. Had to replace my rear though just last yr. That was in 1995!!

I totally agree with the first part, Performance industries makes crappy drivelines compared to the popular shops AND charges more money AND has horrible service. IMO, listen to Abendx and stay away from Performance. We all want to support a local business, but don't settle for expensive crap to do it.

The second part is not entirely true. JE Reel is the most American made driveline on the market, as they use USA made Neapco U-joints. Coast uses Spicer u-joints made in China, but almost everything else is American Made. Coast and JE Reel both use Spicer yokes, which are made in India and China. Tom woods uses his own joints, which are Chinese made, but you get a cheaper driveline that is pretty darn strong. High Angle will build you whatever you want out of any components you want - so you can get a KOH quality shaft for $1,500 or a cheap POS for $300.

Honestly, Woods / Reel / Coast are all great quality compared to stock and should serve you well. Except for Abendx's, every Coast driveshaft I have seen has grease-less (sealed) u-joints, which the folks on JKO have not had good luck with and many have swapped to greasable spicers after joint failures. So if you order from Coast, demand greaseable joints and you will be very happy.

I have been running JE Reel stuff since the 80s, and my Dad used them in his rigs back in the 70s. There was a time when every Baja 1000 champion, every rock crawling champion, and the top runners at the strip all used JE Reel. So I have tried to stick with them for over 20 years and have never got a bad shaft (and I appreciate that they strive to use American -made components).

Whatever you buy is going to be better than factory. Just avoid Procomp, Rubicon Express, Tatton, or any of the really cheap ones. Although those have held up better than some of the Performance DLs I have seen

I had both of them in my JK break pretty fast. They charged almost the price of new ones to fix them (double the quote they gave me when I dropped them off) - which they did with used componets!!! I asked for .188 wall and the slips at the top when I ordered them, but they put the slips at the bottom and made them out of paper-thin material. When I complained, I was basically told that they make them out of what they have around at the time .

Then G&G had them build one for the rear of Curt's TJ after the stretch, it lasted about 3 weeks on the street with NO off-roading before it grenaded on Hageman. I took it back to them, said they would fix it for free. Went back a week later and they lost it, said they didn't remember me dropping off any shaft!! So they found it a day later, fixed it a week later and charged me $300 claiming there was no warranty!

Then like an idiot, I had them make a set for my buggy and for the front of my daughter's TJ. Once again, they put the slips on the bottom of the shafts where they can get damaged in rocks. I lost one of the U-joints in the buggy on the second trip out. The shaft yoke ear broke on my daughter's TJ at Hungry Valley - which I believe was a used yoke when they made the shaft.

And it may be hard to believe, but Josh has had more problems than me!

So far tom woods is winning. Email a bunch of places with my info, so far Woods is the only one iv heard back from ( mr. Tom wood himself). He said thinks i need about "6 in of safe, effective, and useable stroke". He said dont get the cv it wont flex any more (about 30 degrees), it would only serve to make my ride smother once i have a ffont locker. Said to get there U1 spline. U1 has 10.5 in of stroke, more than ill ever need. 319.00 free shipping. Not sure on sales tax

I was told the same line.... I told them if they didn't have any .188, to give me back my shafts. Paperwork states .188.... we shall see.

When i ask for heavy wall they ok but we have to order it, i say ok and they do it...

Ive had font end of rig slam hard on shaft and just scratch/gouge them but no real damage.

Again for some reason im the only recent customer that is satisfied.

Its hard to recommend them when my friends have had issues. I know josh talked to them at length about the abuse our shafts take nd they still didnt get his right.

It just seems to be hit and miss, at first i thought it was because the buyer wasnt specific enough but after seeing multiple posts it doesnt make sense.

I've had good luck and good service from Performance. Chris is the only customer I've heard from who we had shafts made by Performance who's had a problem. If the shafts would have been brought back to me, I would have worked to get them warrantied. I know a few people have had problems going direct to Performance, which makes me sad and I have no doubt the stories are true, yet I have a great relationship with them and have no problems. I've sent many people over there and only a few people on this board talk about having problems. They have built the shafts for our KOH car and we've beat on them pretty good with no problems. Most of the shafts we get from them are .188 wall with Spicer or Neapco joints, though if you don't specify .188 wall you'll get .120 wall.

The drivelines in my buggy are from JE Reel, Jim sponsored me for drivelines when I was running KOH. They are .188 wall shafts and I've beat the living crap out of those shafts and they are still going strong. You will not go wrong going with JE Reel. Most of the drivelines we get for JK's come from JE Reel. At G&G, we use either Performance or JE Reel.

I had performance build me a new one a couple months ago. They had it done in a couple days. No problem getting the thicker wall material. I probably could have got it cheaper elsewhere.

It's Coast Driveline. There's also Coast Differential right next door run by Marty, he did an awesome job on my pinion bearing. Have Tom woods on my jeep and have had pretty good luck. Eaten a pair of u-joints but that's all
