Well took the wife and our oldest daughter out to play in the mud out by old mesa marin. I let the wife play for a bit and then i did. Saw this big puddle and needless to say my interior got flooded out and i ended up having to be towed out of it. I got the jeep running. My intake got water in it and now my fuel pump isnt getting power. The puddle was over 33 inches deep. My back tires were under water.

Lesson learned.... Always probe the hole to see how deep it is before you go balls deep in it!!! :lol:

I took my daughter out behind Hart Park, did a couple of donuts and climbed some hills, was hoping for some mud, but not too much..

well i think its the fuel pump... gonna go grab one from a buddy and see... LMAO

With all that water in your intake, did you pull the plugs and make sure that you did not hydro-lock the engine?

ya i got it started and drove it a little and then it didnt start. im thinking it is the CPS. I just pulled it and the wires are a little messed up. I changed the fuel pump and nothing changed. And since i have a spare CPS i figured i would go ahead and change it to check.

Ok so i have no fuel pump, no spark. I have replaced the fuel pump, replace the CPS, redid all my grounds and made sure they are good grounds. What else could it be?

Did you make sure the current is flowing the correct direction through the FLUX CAPACITOR :thefinger:

I went thru the same puddle sat night with a 97 TJ on 33's... and a 4 banger... I had too! There was a crowd of about 8 rigs, so I had to show them jeeps rule! Lol althought when I got right in the middle I had to down shift to 1st cause the wall of water that was in front of me was comming iver hood lol than today I went thru it with my suburban in 2wd :) than hit the real big one next to it in the grass... that took 4wd..! That thing was deep! Swallowed my 35's and my 6inch lift and bumpers... lol fortunatly I muscled my way thru it... I was the first to hit it... no one ever likes playing with that one cause how deep it gets... lol

If you have a good battery and the engine will not crank, or will barely crank - I would seriously consider that you got water in the cylinders which is very bad (I would never attempt to turn over an engine if enough water got in the intake to soak the filter).

If your battery has enough juice to start, the starter cranks, and you are getting fuel;
1) disconnect your battery
2) remove the distributor cap/rotor and wipe off any visible moisture. (this is a pretty common cause for your problem, moisture in the distributor)
3) Wipe any visible moisture from coil and wires
4) coat with dry silicon spray
5) check the Ignition control module (another common thing to go out when it gets wet)
6) Completely remove and dry the air filter and box
7) Check plug wires/boots for cracks, tears, or loose connections that would allow water in
8) Check and dry other sensors 1 by one
9) Be sure you did not flood the engine by trying to start it over the last couple days

Thats where I would start. Then you get into the tedious tasks of going through every wire, fuse, sensor, and fusable links; A real PITA!

well i swapped the distributor with another one, changed the Crank pos sensor, swapped wiring harness and swapped the ECU and now my fuel pump is working. Cranks good but then acts like it has a dead battery....

My XJ sounded like that when the ignition control module was going out (throws off timing), doesnt sound good. That whine sounds like the alternator is about ready to go too.

The whine is the power steering pump. I have a crack in the resivor so it leaks and then starts to whine. Ill grab a known good one of one of the spare xjs in my back yard lol.

mis reading Crank Position sensor. It wasnt reading properly.
