Tires

Postby chuckanut105 » September 20th, 2013, 7:48 pm

So its time for that age old question again. What tires should I get?
So after looking at pricing and doing a little research.

37in KM2s. I have the 35's on right now love them everywhere but the ice and i really dont see much ice in the Nard.

36in TSL SX. Whats the real word on them anyone ran them before? I would grove them for sure. Im more worried about the flex they are a load range E tire making the side wall stiff as frozen shit.

Pros and cons let me hear them.

The consensus on the BFG's is that they run small, but are a great tire. I want them, but holy hell are the 37's expensive. I think I'll be getting the cooper's in 37. Much cheaper.

Price isn't as much of an issue. I have the KM2s and Love them but want to see what else is out there. Besides groved out SXs will always be cool looking.

What kind of driving will you be doing? Swampers aren't exactly a road friendly tire. If your jeep will be mostly a trail toy, go wild. If you have to drive it more than 100 miles a week, I'd go more conservative.

We get ice and snow up here, and also run a 40 mile per day commute, so BFG All Terrains are going on Katie's JKU next. We have the KM2's now, and I don't love them, but I got them from Whitesnake when they were like 4 years old. New ones probably wear and handle much better.

That meant, Mr. Large Vagina, that I'll be happy to go camping, wheeling, etc with you.

TSL's are an east coast tire, very few out here run them. They are mostly mud tires. Yes, they are tough. They probably bite OK in the rocks if you run very little pressure, they are very stiff and pretty heavy. They will suck on the road compared to most other tires. They are not a popular tire for many reasons, mostly because there are better tire choices.

Just get a cheap set of 37" Iroks and call it good. That's what 90% of the rigs in JV run. They are not nearly as awesome as stickies in the rocks, and not nearly as good as MTRs on the street - but work good in a variety of terrains.

* The 37" KM2 is actually a 35" tire, and is $200 more expensive than the others. Maxxis Creepys are cheaper than these.
* The MTR is a little more expensive than the IROK, but is fantastic on the street. It is a TRUE 37" tire.
* The IROK is cheap, great off-road, but not great on the pavement. They run about 3/4" short.

Tire prices are out of control right now. There was a huge price jump earlier this year.
