Options and suggestions on replacement axles - Dana 44 rear

Postby Dirty LJ » November 12th, 2013, 4:07 pm

So my rear Dana 44 is broken, I haven't pulled it apart yet to know the extent of the damage but at minimum I am sure I will be in need of one axle shaft.

I will probably take this opportunity to upgrade to chromoly.

Suggestions on brands?

Or is there a better way to spend my money on the axle?

Well...since Superior is no more, the next choice if it were me would be G2 or Ten Factory. My G2 33 spline rears have held up to my heavy foot and HP so far....

Just be very sure to check the housing for any damage....

Dont waste money upgradind a d44 either replace stock shafts or replace whole housing

Imo d44 housing will bend under hard use(ask me or richard how we know)

30Spline shafts will hold all a stock housing can take.

Can do a minimal upgrade to forfd 8.8 with truss and 31 spline shafts or get a full floater rear end

In your case with as long as u have had the d44 i would suggest stovk shafts and keep it till it really breaks big.

Ive been looking around and most JK guys seem very happy with the Factory 10s. Ya an 8.8 is good but you only mall crawl the 44 should be good. :thefinger: Save your money and just fix your shit. The baby is gonna sap all your money trust me.

Get the ten factory shafts. should be plenty for your 35s. They will be a huge step up from factory shafts.

I bought G2 shafts for the rear 44 in Bigfoot's Jeep. When the G2 sticker fell off, a Ten-Factory sticker was underneath it :lol3:

G2/Ten Factory is what I have in the front axle.

I know I may want to put 37s on at some point will the 44 with the upgraded axles still be good or should I just do as Matt suggested and save up for an axle replacement.

If you want to upgrade you still need a daily driver. I would say get the cheapest axles then. We can pull a 8.8 out of any junk yard when I get back and make it fit for cheap.
