a couple reminders: NOTHING can be reserved > the only way you get a bed, is to show up early. there's lots of room for cots & bags. that time of year, out door sleeping wouldn't be bad. (the cabins sleeping 24, is based on couples) bring as much firewood as you can, but don't leave alcohol at home if there's not room for both  bring your guns & ammo, your own soap, towel, & propane if you plan to take a shower

if you want to join us but can't get there early > park your motorhome or trailer in the ballarat campground at the base of the mountains and commute back and forth,, approximately 8+miles to the cabins from ballarat

I'm planning on bringing my kids, is that a problem? They've been on every other IOR trip.

just a couple weeks to go, and not many members are on board

remember, this run has something for everyone, from subaru outbacks
to buggies.
you can hang out under the veranda, in the shade, listening to music,
having a cocktail in your pajamas.
you can do a little rock crawlin right behind the cabins, having a cocktail
in your pajamas
shoot exploding riffle targets right from the shooting deck at the back of
the main cabin, while having a cocktail in................. you get the jist of
the run > we're chillin, or whatever :drinks:

we can cruise over to the corona mine, where there are machines, gadgets
and a mine to explore. or a different mine in goler canyon with similar stuff.
the ranch where charlie manson was caught (not much left to see)

optionsoptionsoptions :yup:

(the 2 pics in the first post are from the corona mine, if you look closely, you see my bro in-law in the second one)

Some directions would be appreciated. We're coming up Friday afternoon? How long is the drive from Tehachapi?

here are complete instructions

Make copies and bring them with you

Briggs Cabins, & Ballarat Campground
From Bakersfield or Tehachapi: take Hwy 58 east to the first Mojave exit and turn left.
This road eventually turns into Cal. City blvd. Continue to Hwy 14, turn left (north).
Continue north on Hwy 14 past the “jawbone store” and the ranger station to
“Red rock/ Randsburg road”, turn right. Continue east to the split in the road, stay left.
You are now east bound on “Garlock road”. Continue east to Hwy 395, turn left. (north)
It’s just a few short miles (mostly uphill) to “Searles Station Cutoff” (first paved road on your right)
Turn right on Searles station cutoff and continue east to “Trona road” turn left.(north) Continue north on Trona road to Hwy 178, turn right. Continue east on 178 to the town of Trona,
in the Searles Valley. Stop in Trona at the “Fastrip” Top off your fuel & ice,, and they make huge
hamburger there. Hop back on the road and continue in the same direction.
Soon you will be climbing out of Searles Valley Over the mountains and down in to “Panamint Valley”
Continue across the valley several miles. The road will begin to swing left near the end.
(the road was closed, last time, just a few yards past the entrance to Ballarat)
Watch for 3 small monuments on your right. These monuments mark the dirt road to
Ballarat, the Briggs Mine, & the Cabins, turn right
As you travel on the dirt road, across the dry lake, you will notice there are mile markers
every mile on your right, pay attention to the mile markers, you’ll need them later.
It’s 3 or 4 miles across the dry lake to Ballarat, Stay on the main dirt road until it swings hard right.
If you are driving your rig, and have no reason to go to the dirt lot they call the “campground”,,
Then continue right on the main dirt road. However, if you need to drop your tow rig & trailer,
Or you are camping at the Ballarat campground, then turn hard left.
Park your shtuff and get back on the main dirt road and watch the mile markers.
At 7.9 miles (you’ll be able to see mile marker eight) there will be an unmarked trail on your left.
Approximately ½ mile up the trail you’ll pass between 2 poles in a narrow section, 5 miles from here to the cabins just stay on the trail

LAST WARNING

no one has any reservations, in fact, it's possible, we may not get the best cabins
no one will hold a bed/ or beds for you
you may want to come prepared to sleep on/in your own equipment
(cot, sleeping bag, tent, car  ect.ect.ect

i assume most folks will show up friday evening, but some are coming up wednesday, thursday, and friday from morning til evening

again,, if you plan to take a shower/cook, bring your own propane
there are 3 BBQs on the property for most cooking>> bring briquets
dogs are welcome as long as they get along with all other dogs
the dogs that i know are going, all know each other

when we pack up and leave the cabins, they will be nicer & cleaner then when we got there

i expect cooperation in this matter :Thumb:
