Nobody really goes anymore. The tent guys are miserable and the RV guys are sick of the crowds. Watching the event sucks ass now and you see more action on the live feed online. Camping out there during race week sucks IMO. If I wanted to be elbow to elbow with a bunch of assholes from SoCal, I will just go visit Brad in the Nard
Add to this the fact that the BLM, Sheriffs Department, CHP, State Parks, and DOT will all be out there to get a piece of the ticket-revenue gold rush. They were writing tickets for no tail lights on Buggies, citing race cars for their flashing lights for "impersonating law enforcement", setting up DUI checkpoints on all major roads, walking through camps checking registration and green stickers, writing tickets for having glass bottles on the lake bed (including hard alcohol), DOT weighing tow rigs at the entrance to Boone Rd, and nit-picking every rig out there to get that promotion for writing the most tickets. 3 law enforcement agencies went through our camp last year looking for reasons to write tickets. This alone is plenty reason to stay away.
I know Jeff is going out for the main race for the day, but not wheeling, and I am going to be out there on Tuesday to watch Matt do his time trial and cheer for him, then going home - but I think that is it.
The last couple years has really turned me off on this race. I would rather go to a WEROCK or CalRocks event and watch some real rock crawling in a spectator friendly event. I might run into you on Tuesday if you are still going to be out there.
