XJ axle swap

Postby rntaylor87 » February 24th, 2014, 10:02 pm

I've got an 01 Cherokee with a 4.5" lift running 32's, D30/D35 3.55. Local JY has a 50% off sale coming up and was wanting to know what would be the best way for me to go as far as D44 or 8.8. I was down there last week checking out all of the 8.8 explorers with disc brakes and found 3 55, 3 73, 3L73, but no 4 10's. I really want 4.10's, need is more like it. Also what for the front and what to pull from? This is new to me so I'm just learning as I go. Any advice is appreciated.

I have an 8.8 with 4.10's and disk brakes. I may be willing to part with it. Also has spring under perches for yj on it already.

Unless you plan on going over 35s and run extreme tails, keep the d30. you will only need to beef it up a little.

DD for now. Once it becomes a second vehicle I'd like to go 35's.

The only problem with my D30 is it's a low point.

What do you mean low point? As in low clearance?

Oh, I'm thinking you're meaning it's a Low pinion D30. That makes sense. Swap a high pinion D30 or a 44 if you can find one. 44 isn't going to be that much of a gain over the 30, just depends on your driving style.

I'm going to take Zak up on his axles. I'm just dreading grinding off everything and putting on new mounts.
