Fun run with lots of action, which ended with a grand finale by Crazy Sammy (as usual)
Weather got a little hot on Saturday, but a nice breeze made it perfectly tolerable. The weather at night was PERFECT. We ran the loop on Saturday, and smaller groups broke off to explore and play on bonus obstacles throughout the day. Josh was supposed to be there, but seemed to be "leaving in 20 minutes" for about 12 hours

. He finally showed up late Saturday night with the Sammy in tow.
Roger and the rest of the group were doing a night run when Josh showed up, so Josh and I decided to go up Gatekeeper with our buggies and play on some bonus obstacles up there. After getting the Sammy warmed-up properly by sitting on the rev-limiter for a while on Gatekeeper, Josh was ready for the first bonus line.
He decided to go straight up a 100 ft hillside made of crumbling rock and loose shale. it got super steep and deep, and the little Sammy had to give up and try to back down. After nearly rolling several times, he finally got turned around and began descending a ledge on the lower part of the cliff. He tried to pivot around a huge boulder with his slider and got in trouble; his passenger rear tire went flat and folded over and his driver's wheel was about 8 feet in the air. The rig was teetering on the verge of rolling and Josh's weight was the only thing keeping it from going over. There was no way out, nothing to winch to, nothing to strap to, and if the rig moved an inch it was going to do a NASTY roll. . I have been wheeling and spotting my whole life, and I have never told anyone "you are fucked", until Josh did this. Josh's underwear were sucked up his crack pretty deep at that moment
Josh told me to grab his suspended tire and hold it down as hard as I could. To my amazement, Josh took off his seatbelt, told me to put all of my weight on that tire, and he leaped from the rig. Now when I say leaped, Im not talking about him just jumping out; he flew out of that fucking thing with arms straight out and did a belly flop into the rocks! The rig started lifting me off the ground and Josh yelled "LET IT GO". I let go and the Sammy rolled like a bowling ball down that cliff and came to rest on its side near the bottom.
The cage and body was smashed to hell - a total loss. The cage failed and smashed in right over the cab. His engine took a direct hit during the roll and numerous components, including his compressor and intake manifold, were crushed. But to our amazement, it fired right up on the 1st turn and drove out under its own power!!!! You can't kill the Sammy!!!
Then it was time to get drunk and do the IOR thing, which we did till about 4am.
This was the last trip for Samantha, which will be stripped of her parts and junked. We will miss this "Legend of the trails"
