I have never ran Tehachapi Creek.
But, I do have extensive experience with XJs, YJs, TJs, and JKs running Detroit lockers front and back. I currently have 3 jeeps sitting in my driveway with Detroits front and rear.
ON THE STREET:
Run great and barely noticeable with an automatic trans except on hard turns if you accelerate. With a manual trans, they suck on the street.
ON THE TRAIL (dir / rocks / mud):
Work fantastic on the trail. No air lines, solenoids, wiring, compressors, or fittings to fail. Be mindful that you really should upgrade your axles to run detroits, its very easy to break the stock ones with a locker.
IN SNOW:
works good. I run em in the snow every year for the last 20 years. Tires generally get pretty good traction in snow anyway.
ON ICE:
Very bad, and sometimes outright scary. Super unpredicatable on ice, especially over pavement. I would never put them in a vehicle that sees a lot of ice.
