1969 Ford Bronco

Postby 81BigBrett » March 9th, 2016, 8:51 am

So my dad bought this 69 Bronco a couple weeks ago in Arizona, near Flagstaff. The body is in great shape and there was just one little spot of rust on the inner front fender. The frame and axles have been completely gone through and updated. The previous owner changed out the front axle for a Dana 44 high pinion, rebuilt it with chromoly shafts and 4:10 gears with a locker, same with the 9" rear end. :Thumb: The previous owner also ad the frame taken down to bare metal and then powder coated along with the axles.

The rig came with a brand new 3 1/2" Wild Horses Lift kit and a 2" body lift. It is currently sitting on top of 35" tires.

Now the tricky part. The rig came with a rebuilt 4bt cummins diesel engine. The previous owner took it to his local diesel shop when he got it and had them go through it completely and rebuilt it. I believe he was going to set it up to a nv4500 transmission 4 speed. and then to a np205 transfer case, but my dad wants to run a c6 auto with it.

This is a new area of build for us so it should be interesting.

Also if anybody else has any experience the 4bt any help would be welcomed.

Sure you don't want to just throw a 302 in it? I have a good one from a 70 Mustang.

If it were up to me it would get a 302 or a 351 from a early 90's fullsize bronco, But the old man wants a diesel.

Once again to bad I am leaving at one point in time I was fairly well versed int eh 4bt and 6bt engines lol. Looks like a fun project though. I personally think you would be better off with the manual trans option though. But I am sure someone out there has the parts to beef up a c6 to hold the diesel torque curve
from the not so dark side, the right side, the toyota side.

So some changes are being made to the bronco. first, he is no longer going to run the diesel. He has decided to look for a 4 wheel drive explorer 97-2001 with the v8 to use as a donor. Apparently diesels are loud and smoke too much.
