I was bidding on a Forest Service job in Lake Isabella this morning. I took my JK because we had to travel some dirt roads. On my way down MNT 155 going toward the 178, that little devil on my shoulder told me to turn off at Keyesville and take Black Gulch down to Freeway ridge. So I pulled over, and sent a Text Message to my wife explaining what I was doing (don't want to pull a Larry/Henry!) so my wife can call the "IRS" (Infectious Rescue Squad) if I don't make it back. Aired down, disco-ed, and took off. There was one bad spot in the road before you get to the 4x4 trail head. A couple more good rains and this section will be gone.

The 4x4 trail section is much easier than when I have taken it in the past. It seems like many of the rocky sections have filled in. The brush is also cut back from the trail more than usual, probably from heavy traffic. Since I have never gone downhill on Freeway Ridge, I decided to do it.

Going downhill in the mud on Freeway Ridge is way more challenging than going up. You kind of have to do a controlled slide down the obstacles. On the steep mud hill, I had to go low in 1st and coast down because any brake pressure would send the Jeep sideways. It was a fun little side trip that only took about an hour.
