Big problems

Postby casaintsfan » April 1st, 2010, 7:58 am

after I dropped Jeremy off I noticed some serious vibration in my front end at slower speeds(around 35-40mph) thought I would have to adjust my toe. Went out this morning to check it out even more. my tie rod is bent more than it was, then I noticed that my passenger shock wasn't lined up like the sever side. My front axle tube is twisted counter clockwise. Everything on the passenger side of the front suspension is either bent or twisted. The shock has a cover on it and I'm sure it is bent too. It looks like the weld that holds the C onto the axle is cracked like if if I would've wheeled it hard a little more it would've snapped right off. I don't know what I'm gonna do, it looks like alot of work & alot of $$$$ to fix it.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Larry

That sucks!!!!!

Definately a result of running gatekeeper.

If the axel tube is bent (which happens alot with front Rubi 44s), your better off spending about $2800 on a new factory Rubi 44. (and might as well sleave and gusset for more $. TJ guys probably don't know that Rubi 44 front axles have Dana 30 tubes)

If the tube is not bent, the entire front axle will have to come out, tube cleaned up realigned and welded, brackets straightened welded or replaced, new shock, reweld Cs and add gussets. Probably looing at close to $1000+ to get this done by someone qualified to do it (definately not a 4wheelparts job). And there is no garrantee that it is salvagable, as further damage may be found to the internals.

Or go about $3200 total for a Dynatrac pro-rock 44 housing and use your existing parts. Or go with a D60, and dump $5500+ into it.

Or, buy a used Rubi 44 off of craigslist, ebay, or JKowners.com. There are usually some for sale because many are doing Pro-Rock and Rock-Jock swaps.

Or take my old D30 for another case of Corona or a bottle of Jager, Buy and install 4.10 gears to match your rear axle (maybe add an ausie locker) and wheel this until you can afford a REAL upgrade.

My steering is out of alignment again , but it was so worth it. It was kind of hard to drive against those 50MPH winds though :lol3: .

I feel for you bro, but at least you damaged it like a man :beermug:

Do what I did, turn it over to your insurance and spend some extra money on the sleeves and gussets. Though, I had Chirs Nello do mine, now you would need to find a shop to work with the insurance company and put the sleeve and gussets on the new D44.
4wheele part maybe able to do the sleeve and gussets, won't hurt to ask.
