Spare tire swing away.

Postby REDxj5150 » September 7th, 2010, 6:59 pm

My swing away has just about had it, so I was wondering what cool ideas you guys have seen for an XJ. I'd like to put a jerry can back there, but I'm not sure with the idea that's going in my head that I would be able to open up the hatch if all of the stuff is on the swing away.

here it is now.

I am probably going to move the jack to the roof rack. I think it will be safer up there. At least safer from thieves. I'd also like to angle the tire to the window. The way it is now the tire sags. I like that radio flyer idea, but I think that would just make the swing away too tall.

How about putting the spare on the roof rack? That way you get your visibility and departure angle back.

That's where it is right now, but when you're tipping what's to blame? of course you know i'm going to say if that darn tire wasn't up there i wouldn't have tipped it. It's also nice to have the ability to run 2 spare tires. Which after this weekend I don't think i'll be buying anymore used tires again! I don't blame anyone but myself for how miserable of a weekend I just had. I just don't have any luck with tires. I always seem to have to have one bad apple on the jeep. This weekend I just happened to have 2 bad apples, and one that could have gone bad too.

I think 2 spare tires is going to be normal for me very soon.
