Hungry Valley 2nd Annual Noob/Ball and Chain run

How many would like to make the Hungry Valley Noob/Ball and Chain run an annual event, last year it was the last weekend in January, if we do it the last weekend in 2011 it will be the 29th-30th, or we can do it the weekend before the 22nd-23rd.

This would be perfect for the guys and gals just getting started from stock to built up rigs, Hungy Valley has something for everyone. This is also a chance for your significant other to get some behind the wheel experiance, you never know when something might happen and they have to get behind the wheel and drive out of some terrain other than a black top road.

We had good food drinks stories around the camp fire and great company on the last Noob/Ball and Chain run, so who wants to do this?

You know, This whole new baby stuff is killing me. My wife needs help with our daughter, and I can't leave for 2 or 3 days. So, since I cannot be making a lot of runs these days, it does give me time to keep building the burb. When she gets old enough to spend the night at grandma and grampa's house, Things will change, which should be a few months. I cant wait to go to the beach, hell, anywhere would be good!!! I will try though. She did say I could do 1 run a month for now. We will see!

there were a couple of people that just went up for the day, if you did that, we wouldn't hold it against you maybe the mud pit will have mud in it, there was snow in some areas last time

Great idea Harry. This will be a good opportunity for the boy to do his first solo run in his TJ. They have some new obstacles up there too for the more built rigs.

I just watched the first posted video. Looks fun! There is a practice area? Cute! It looks wide open and easy, perfect for me! I'm in! Anytime in Jan. works for me. Couple things I noticed in the video: There is a dirt bypass road next to the mile long rock bed, Nice! Also, an FJ has 3 wiper blade? I guess you have to buy 2 pair ? That's cool, like a greyhound bus! I've never been there before, always wanted to go. It will be fun going up the grapevine with 42s! I'm in!

Ok guys, I'm for sure. Do they have a spot to camp next to the rigs or something? Sounds like they do. It sure will be nice to sleep in a mattress in the burb!! that is one good thing about a burb, and an electric heater also. Got to get my inverter hooked up. I can't wait for a night without a newborn, it going to be a vacation for me!! There is no way I'm backing out! Also, I will have room for some of your stuff to take up there, like ice chest full of beer! Should we get a keg? That would be sweet! I could run the tap straight to the drivers seat. JK.

there are campgrounds throuout Hungry Valley, there is one right next to the obsticle course too

If i can get my jeep fixed by then, then im in....either date is good for me but i put down the 22nd-23rd but most likely i will be a 1 day person but maybe a camper ill let you guys know around that time.

All of the trails are easy and your sub will easily do them - honestly most trails don't even require 4x4 if you have MT tires. I drove my Suburban through everything in Hungry Valley (except the rock climb and sluice box) - and your Sub is more badass than mine was. The only difficult obstacles are those in the 4x4 practice area, and the only really narrow trail is "Henry's Gulch".

Is BC109 there? Someone told me the trails are tight and to stay on the easy trails. He said there are some real tight spots and I wouldn't like the outcome. I don't want to beat the doors and rockers so bad that I can't use this as a tow rig later, but I wanna tear some shit up! He also said to bring plenty of spare parts! I carry a lot of parts, but I also have AAA Plus! Its a 100 miles of free towing!

Trust me, i m not scared one bit. I can't wait!!

BC109 is about 40 minutes away from Aliklik campground at Hungry Valley - and is not part of Hungry Valley. It is off of Lockwood Valley road almost to hwy 33. Last year some of us wanted to run something more challenging, so we made the drive to BC109 on Sunday.

Your friend's idea of a hard trail is not very good if he is talking about Hungry Valley, every single trail out there can be done easily by a stock 4x4, and as I stated before, most trails can be done in 2WD. Freeway ridge is twice as difficult than the most difficult HV trail. This is why we chose Hungry valley for our "Newbie / Ball & chain" runs; so new wheelers and our wives/girlfriends can get behind the wheel and gain some experience in a safe environment. The only stuff too narrow for your suburban is a couple of obstacles in the practice area and running in the little gulches off the side of the road. I wouldn't worry about this one Jeff, you might bring the old lady and let her drive .

She HATES the burb. She says I spend too much time working on it. She has only been in it one time. I had to take a step stool with us so she could get in and out. She would never go, And I would have to drive like an old man. She is too high maintenance for off roading and camping

Is this confirmed for the 22-23rd? I have to put in to make sure I get the days off. Also lets start a new thread in the up coming runs for this!


Once we get the dates nailed down what do you guys think about trying to get some vendor support and a little more advertising for this? Hopefully we can make this a big event attracting lots of newbie Jeepers!!!
