BC109 -- 12/31 -- Infectious New Year's Eve Run

If you went on a run this is where to brag about it!

BC109 -- 12/31 -- Infectious New Year's Eve Run

Postby abendx » January 1st, 2011, 8:50 am

More later.... but the trip was a blast.

Met up with Infectious members chuckanut105 and rando30ex... women and children were present, so I was not able to perform any naked hood riding this time out (although it is never the same without O8er representation). We got a bit of a late start, but not too bad.

We ran up into the main wash and it was wet.... wet and ICY. The whole trail was a mixture of the two, with more ice than running water. Made the trail interesting. The V-notch, while I assumed was going to have been made more enjoyable with all the recent rains was opened up quite a bit and a MAC truck might have made it through without issue. In fact, most of the trail was quite a bit easier than usual, which is bad news in my opinion.

We then decided to take the left fork at the top... we ran into a fallen tree and some other crap making forward progress a problem, I went up and around... but my Infectious breathren had vaginal itching and backed out of coming along? So I turned around and came back down to the right fork. We somehow lost rando30ex? Didn't leave him, as he took off on his own.... but didn't say anything and I worried/looked for a bit until I figured it out. Strange!

chuckanut105 and I had a blast on the right fork and came quickly back down the wash when the sun turned to clouds.

chuckanut105 kicked some ass in his non-locked JK!

CARNAGE REPORT:
rando30ex: muddy vagina
chuckanut105: one destroyed front JK flare
abendx: one destroyed engine/oil pan skid which somehow cracked the oilpan/engine block (unknown real damage until I start digging)

It was COLD out there... if you go, go prepared! We had to sit in the heep for a few hours after dark until AAA came to scoop our asses up and it was pretty painful without the ability to turn the heater on.

Pictures soon.

is your skid connected to the pan/block? If not is the skid just too weak for your crazy ass?

Yeah.... Hope so and yes, big time bullshit! At least Pete was there too. Lots of people stopped to ask if I needed help, so its good to know I could have asked of Pete wasn't there.
is your skid connected to the pan/block? If not is the skid just too weak for your crazy ass?
Not connected. It connects to the tranny cross member and the frame at the front. Big time failure. Still have to get it out to se what the real damage is. If bc109 can do this.... I can't imagine what the hammers would do to it?!?

Re: BC109 -- 12/31 -- Infectious New Year's Eve Run

Postby abendx » January 6th, 2011, 9:19 am

So.... it seems like I will be okay with my engine. I have to run by my mechanic to have him look it over, but I think I am out of the woods without major damage (i.e. engine).

The skid plate failure did the following (at least from my last inspection):

1. Pierced the oil filter (loss of all engine oil).
2. Crushed the transmission pan.
3. Dented the oil pan.
4. Destroyed the front drive shaft (may be able to have rebalanced?).
5. Destroyed both the engine and belly skid plates (total failure in at least four spots).
6. Possible engine block issue. The part where the oil filter screws on was damaged/scared/bent.

So far.... Treks (skid plate manufacture) is telling me to stick it up my ass, but I am still trying to work with them on this.

Lesson learned so far.

1. Engine skid should not be of a cradle design (i.e. the front of the skid should not be suspended using a cradle to the frame rails). At least not the design Treks uses. My last message from them, they claim the design was changed, but they do not elaborate nor take any responsibility for the previous flawed design.
2. The forward part of the belly pan cannot come forward of the tranny crossmember. Without support, it can bend easily (remember, I was on BC109 when this failed... hardly a difficult trail).

More to come and hopefully the manufacture decides to stand behind their product.

Also.... a side note. While many people stopped to insure I was okay sitting on the side of the road in sub freezing temps with a large oil spill under the Jeep, one group decided to not see if I was okay. CI4x4 (with five or six Jeeps), slowed down to give me dirty looks and then drive off (actually, one waved, but that was it). They did this to Pete as well a few miles up the road where he was pulled over with his hazards on making the calls for me to AAA. Bad, bad karma for those shitbirds!

Thanks for the offer.... as long as there is not damage to the block or anything I can't determine, I'll be okay. Good that the next run is the ball and chain... no skids are needed for that. :)

Yeah he already had it figured out, but it never hurts to ask. Shoot I can't even count how many times I've asked people if they need help. ANd you know what only a handful of times have they actually needed it. You know what I mean...
Question, how did you know they were Channel Island 4X4? Also if it was them where were you broke down at....I would like to drop a line or two on their FaceBook page.
They had CI4x4 stickers on the sides of their rigs. I looked at their forums and they had a run up there that day. And now they are bashing me there for doing something wrong on their forum when I brought this up as a learning point for them. Sure I am a tad ticked they blew by like that, but in the end... I am fine. So why not learn from it, right? The really interesting thing is that the people that were on that run aren't the people making the biggest noise.... it is mostly the admins. Weird, right?
Thing about it is, you probably already had help coming and would have respectfully declined if thay asked. Now karma is going to hit them retards on the next trai and they brought it on thereselves. "Some peoples kids!!"
This is correct. I had help coming, but they just flipped their noses up at me when they went by. Actually, one waved, but the rest gave dumbass/dirty looks. Then when they went by Pete (another Infectious member and my help) on the side of the road a few miles up with his flashers on (it was dark and he was making the phone calls in an area that had cell reception), they didn't stop to see if he was okay either.
Yeah he already had it figured out, but it never hurts to ask. Shoot I can't even count how many times I've asked people if they need help. And you know what only a handful of times have they actually needed it. You know what I mean...
This is my point.... dumb move on their part. Two seconds to check on someone's welfare goes a long way and what if that person was actually in real need (medical emergency, etc.). Every other 4x4 that went by stopped or turned around and came back to make sure we were okay, heck.... even most of the few cars that went by that night stopped to ask.

Anyhow.... the point now is that we know, as a club, that we'd never pull that kind of shit. This is a learning point for us too. Not only to stop and check on people (I assume we would already do this as everyone in the club I have met or talked to here seems like 100% good, no great, people!), but that not stopping makes not only the individul look bad, but the club as a whole look bad. Hell... even some rigs from VC4WD stopped by to check me out... and according to a reliable person in CI4x4, they are the CI4x4 rejects that got kicked out for various reasons. If the rejects are the ones that stop to help others out.... well shit, the rejects must be the good ones! So no need to start any wars or anything... we should just learn from the situation. Apparently CI4x4 can't seem to figure this part out?
